Paül Design Studio was approached by the founders of eighties night club, Boogalo, to redesign within a timeframe of three weeks this original venue into an energising and high style lounge bar for those who enjoy disco music.
Looking into the music industry and night life of eighties Manhattan, inspired the designers to establish the overall aspect of the interior around graphic patterns, electric blue velvet and metallic elements.
They adapted references, textures and colours to people’s different ideas of high style and disco glamour. For example, celebrity portraits were carefully selected to capture the punk rock and psychedelic styles of that time. Blue sapphire in velvet fabric and metallic micro leather are prominent with orange accents, which was inspired by Manolo Blahnikhq’s Mandoka shoes, to add the right amount of contrast.
Borrowing a pattern of diagonal striped mirrors featured in the original night club, the designers and the client agreed to apply a graphic black and white interpretation of this pattern along the central walls. To counterbalance, organic elements on walls and ceilings in satin and metallic paint were added to introduce a bit of glamour, while velvet seats provide strong but softer visual focus.

A collaboration with a lighting technician made it possible to meld three different hues of neon light, blue indigo, purple and magenta, in order to introduce some late seventies and eighties flare.
One of the specific requirements was to introduce pop elements to the scene. The design team came up with some pop art inspired elements on the tables and the ceiling-hung wine glass rack. With help of the prominent blue colour palette and label branding on small details, such as posters, tables and glass coasters, everything comes together to make this a unique lounge bar that will take customers back in time.
